The Backbone of Upstate New York: Strengthening Agriculture & Small Businesses

In Upstate New York and the North Country, two industries define who we are: agriculture and small businesses. These are not just economic drivers—they are a way of life. Family farms, local shops, and small-town entrepreneurs are the heart of our communities, yet they face increasing challenges that threaten their survival.

I’m exploring a run for Congress because I believe we must do more to support the industries that sustain our economy and our communities. Government overreach, rising costs, and outdated policies are making it harder for farmers and business owners to succeed. It’s time to push back and fight for solutions that work.

Farming in the North Country: Protecting Our Agricultural Heritage

Farming is a way of life in our region. Generations of dairy farmers, apple growers, maple producers, and grain farmers have built their livelihoods from the land. But today, they face skyrocketing costs, labor shortages, and unfair trade policies that make it harder to compete.

✅ Lowering Costs & Cutting Red Tape – New York farmers are struggling with rising fuel, fertilizer, and equipment costs. Government regulations, like burdensome labor laws and environmental mandates, are making it even tougher. We need to cut unnecessary red tape so that farmers can focus on what they do best—feeding our communities.

✅ Expanding Markets & Fair Trade – NY-21’s agricultural economy depends on strong U.S.-Canada trade and fair access to markets. Policies like the Farm Bill and USMCA are critical to ensuring our farmers can sell their products without excessive tariffs or restrictions.

✅ Investing in the Next Generation – Family farms are disappearing because it’s too expensive and too difficult for young farmers to get started. We need to expand access to agricultural education, apprenticeships, and low-interest farm loans to keep this industry alive for future generations.

Small Businesses: The Heart of Our Local Economy

Across Upstate New York and the North Country, small businesses fuel our economy. From Main Street shops to manufacturing, tourism, and technology startups, our local businesses provide good-paying jobs and economic stability—but they are under pressure.

✅ Lower Taxes & Less Regulation – Small businesses are being taxed and regulated to death. We need policies that reduce the tax burden, cut bureaucratic red tape, and make it easier to start and grow a business.

✅ Workforce Development – Businesses struggle to find skilled workers. **Investing in vocational training, trade schools
